Good morning/afternoon/evening to all you fine ladies and gentlemen,
I would like to kick off this blog with a short post that introduces myself and my co-author, Conradzilla, and also the purpose of our presence here in cyberspace. First, my name is Tyler--yes, I know it is not nearly as interesting as my co-author's--and the two of us have been experiencing the scene of college cuisine as roommates for the last four years. Needless to say, we have developed a plethora of creative, delicious and cost-effective ways to keep our bellies full that are also healthy to boot! In fact, we have gotten so good at this that we decided it would not be fair if we kept our secrets, well--secret. Both Conradilla and I come from two different walks of life, each of which allowed for us to experience the wonder of food in our own and unique way. Mix in a little creativity and the possibilities were limitless.
We are always looking for new ways to cook food, find food, eat food--really, anything food. That is why we are starting this blog. We understand the many obstacles that college students face when it comes to the topic of food. Budget, small kitchen, no kitchen, cooking inexperience: these are all things that plague college students. It is our hope that this blog may serve as a guide to those who are new to the world of food and need some direction or those who simply want to learn more about quick, healthy and cheap ways to provide your body with proper sustenance. Expect to see the following articles relatively shortly:
'Ramen 101; Part 1--So many brands, so little English' -- Expect to learn about the many brands of ramen noodles, the staple to many college students' diets. Health aside, we cannot ignore this fact, nor can we stand by and watch as fellow college students purchase low-grade ramen for the price of the good stuff.
'Ramen 101; Part 2--From Salty to Healthy (sort of)' -- Who said ramen had to be entirely unhealthy. We will show you a few ways to enhance your ramen experience to not only make it taste better but to also make it a little more healthy.
'The Seven Deities of Rice' -- In Japan it is said that each grain of rice is protected by seven deities. Therefore, it has to be a good thing, right? Yes, rice is a very good thing and this article will explain just why that is.
'The Difference Between Eating Out and Pigging Out' -- Most college campuses have plenty of food options for the many hungry college students. This article will help stray your eyes away from golden arches and focus them on healthier, and often cheaper, alternatives.
'Know Your Grocery Store Options' -- Yes, your local grocery store is a good place to shop; no, Target is not a great place to shop (for food, at least). Have you heard of Aldi? No? Well you will have after you read this.
'Protien. I mean Protein, but 'i' and 'e' and--oh, well whatever' -- Aside from the goofy spelling, protein makes a lot of sense, especially when regarding your diet. If you have never met this protein character before or if you are in need of a reunion with said character then this is the article for you.
This is just a taste of what you can expect to see from us. Until next time, happy college cooking!
